Vice President JD Vance Answers Whether He Will Be President Trump’s Successor
Vice President J.D. Vance was recently asked whether he sees himself as President Trump’s successor and potential 2028 nominee. In response, Vance smiled and remained deliberately vague—saying it’s “too early to be thinking” about the 2028 election. He emphasized that his current focus is on supporting the administration and helping secure Republican victories in the 2026 midterms.
Still, Vance didn’t rule out the possibility of being a future contender. He admitted that President Trump “talks about everything,” which leaves open the question of whether succession has come up. Amid the speculation, a recent poll shows Vance leading among MAGA-supporting voters, with 46% expressing preference for him as the future GOP standard-bearer.
President Trump himself has fueled the buzz—telling reporters that Vance is “most likely” the heir apparent to the MAGA movement, while also mentioning that Senator Marco Rubio might team up with him in a future ticket. Despite the early stage, commentators see this as a clear sign of Trump’s effort to shape the party’s next chapter.
