President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have attended the funeral of Pope Francis at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City. The ceremony drew over 250,000 mourners and was attended by numerous world leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and Prince William.

President Trump, dressed in a navy suit and tie, and Melania, in a black lace outfit with a veil, were seated prominently among other dignitaries. Their attendance marked President Trump’s first overseas trip of his second term, coinciding with Melania’s 55th birthday.

Prior to the funeral, President Trump praised Pope Francis as a “good man” who “loved the world,” despite their past disagreements on issues such as immigration and climate change.

The funeral reflected Pope Francis’s commitment to humility and inclusion. His simple wooden coffin was carried through Rome and buried at the Basilica of St. Mary Major, a departure from traditional papal burials at St. Peter’s. The ceremony included participation from marginalized groups, such as migrants and the homeless, underscoring the Pope’s lifelong advocacy for the underprivileged.

This gathering of global leaders not only honored the late pontiff but also provided an opportunity for diplomatic engagements amidst the solemn occasion.
