President Trump FIRES Obama-Appointed Librarian of Congress

President Donald Trump has made another staffing change in Washington, this time involving the Library of Congress. The move comes amid a broader reshuffling of key positions across federal agencies.

President Trump has officially fired Carla Hayden from her role as Librarian of Congress, bringing an end to her tenure that began with her historic appointment by President Obama in 2016. Hayden, who was the first Black woman to lead the Library of Congress, had been a prominent figure in promoting diversity and modernizing the institution. Her removal comes just days after the conservative watchdog group American Accountability Foundation (AAF) publicly called for her ousting, citing concerns over what they described as the promotion of “woke ideologies” and “sexual identity” content aimed at children.

In addition to ideological concerns, critics of Hayden also pointed to her past connections with billionaire George Soros, alleging that her work history included time at an organization funded by him. These associations fueled right-wing accusations that she was steering the Library in a political direction, rather than serving its core mission of preserving and providing access to knowledge and history.

According to CBS News, Hayden was notified of her termination via email—a move that drew sharp criticism from Democrats. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries condemned the firing as “a disgrace,” claiming it was part of Trump’s broader campaign to “ban books, whitewash American history, and turn back the clock.” The abrupt nature of the dismissal and the lack of a formal explanation only intensified partisan reactions, with supporters calling it a necessary corrective and opponents decrying it as an act of political retribution.

Hayden’s tenure had been marked by several high-profile moments, including the widely publicized decision to allow pop star Lizzo to play a crystal flute once owned by Founding Father James Madison. That event, while celebrated by some, was harshly criticized by conservatives who saw it as a symbolic gesture of cultural decline.

With her removal, Trump continues to reshape federal institutions according to his vision, signaling a renewed push to remove Obama-era appointees and root out what he and his allies see as left-leaning influence in government agencies.
