Michelle Obama Jokes About Being a ‘Single Girl’ in Recent Podcast Episode

Michelle Obama’s Joke About Being “Single” Sparks Fresh Rumors About Marriage
Michelle Obama stirred speculation about her marriage after joking about being “a single girl” during a recent episode of the podcast In My Opinion (IMO).
In a light moment, Michelle joked: “If I’m a single girl out there and I find out that Brian Chesky is single and I could like stay in his house—” referring to Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, who was also a guest on the episode, along with her brother Craig Robinson.
Her brother quickly cut in, laughing, “Here she goes, right to the relationship!” and reassured Chesky not to feel pressured. Chesky responded by mentioning that the Obamas had tried to set him up before, to which Michelle added, “I’m very invested in Brian’s love life.”
Although said in jest, the comment renewed public interest in the Obamas’ marriage, which has faced ongoing rumors in recent years, according to Conservative Brief.
Michelle’s absence from major events—like Trump’s inauguration and former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral—has previously fueled speculation. Meanwhile, Barack Obama recently admitted to a “deep deficit” in their relationship, saying he’s trying to create more quality time with Michelle.
Michelle has also been open about challenges in their marriage, such as Barack being habitually late and avoiding tough conversations.
Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly discussed the couple’s dynamic, with Carlson saying Michelle “really dislikes her husband” and describing her tone as “hostile.” He added that he wasn’t trying to be mean but found it hard to ignore. Kelly agreed and said Michelle often focuses on Barack’s flaws, unlike her own approach in marriage.
Michelle addressed the divorce rumors on another podcast hosted by Steven Bartlett, calling the claims “baseless.” When asked about her absence from Trump’s inauguration, Bartlett said many saw it as a sign of marital trouble. Michelle laughed it off, saying, “If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it.”
Pointing to her brother, she joked, “He would know it—and he’d be doing a podcast with Barack instead.”
Michelle also reaffirmed her commitment, saying Barack is her “person” and that neither of them is giving up on the relationship. She ended the discussion by urging young people not to idolize their marriage, warning that many give up too easily because of unrealistic expectations.
