BREAKING: Ex-FBI Director Christopher Wray Criminally Referred to DOJ

Christopher Wray Hit with Criminal Referral for Allegedly Lying to Congress

In another major step toward government accountability, former FBI Director Christopher Wray has been criminally referred to the Department of Justice. The referral comes from the Oversight Project, a government watchdog group that accuses Wray of obstructing proceedings and providing false testimony to Congress in two separate high-profile cases.

If found guilty, Wray could face up to seven years in prison.

Two Central Allegations Against Wray

The Oversight Project’s criminal referral highlights two major incidents where Wray is accused of misleading Congress:

1. Targeting Catholics

In 2023, an internal FBI memo came to light that labeled certain traditional Catholic groups as potential domestic terror threats. When questioned about it, Wray claimed the memo originated from just one field office in Richmond, Virginia.

But whistleblower documents later revealed that multiple FBI offices were involved, directly contradicting Wray’s testimony. This raises serious concerns about whether Americans were being targeted for their religious beliefs — and whether Wray lied to cover it up.

2. Downplaying Chinese Interference

Wray also testified before Congress that the FBI hadn’t found evidence of coordinated voter fraud, either by mail or otherwise, during the 2020 election. However, evidence uncovered later suggests otherwise.

Internal records and an FBI intelligence report from August 2020 pointed to a Chinese Communist Party (CCP) plot to interfere in the election — a report Wray allegedly never disclosed. Additionally, U.S. Customs and Border Protection had seized nearly 20,000 fake driver’s licenses — mostly from China — just months before the election, further supporting the theory that foreign actors were trying to manipulate mail-in voting.

Key Witnesses and Media Coverage

According to Blaze News and Fox News, whistleblowers have confirmed the FBI knew about these threats but delayed action and withheld the information from the public and from lawmakers. Oversight Project President Mike Howell said the group believes Wray’s statements were knowingly false and designed to protect the narrative that no major election interference had occurred.

Wray’s remarks to the Senate in September 2020 and March 2021 directly contradict what we now know from seized evidence and intelligence documents.

Wider Implications: Who Else Is Being Investigated?

Wray’s case isn’t the only one. Recently, Jerome Powell was also referred to the DOJ, and ongoing investigations are targeting former top officials like James Comey and John Brennan. All of this points to a broader push to expose wrongdoing and corruption inside the federal government — often referred to as efforts to “drain the swamp.”

What Comes Next?

While a criminal referral doesn’t guarantee charges or prosecution, it puts serious legal pressure on Wray. Whether or not the DOJ chooses to move forward with the case remains to be seen — but the evidence, at least publicly, appears substantial.

The big question now: Should Wray be held accountable?
Many are saying yes — and if the accusations hold up, a trial could be the next step.
