CNN’s Scott Jennings Says He Will Run For Senate — On One Condition

Wow, what an interesting condition.
CNN’s Conservative Star Could Enter Senate Race!
Scott Jennings, a conservative political commentator and longtime GOP strategist, is reportedly considering a bid for the U.S. Senate seat in Kentucky that will be vacated by retiring Senator Mitch McConnell. Jennings, who currently serves as a political contributor at CNN, indicated during a private gathering following the White House Correspondents’ Dinner that he is open to the idea—depending on the direction he receives from former President Donald Trump.
“If the president wants me, I’ll run,” Jennings said at the event, which was held at the residence of the Swiss ambassador. He added, “If he wants somebody else, I’ll support that candidate.” Jennings’ remarks underscore his alignment with Trump’s leadership within the Republican Party and his willingness to defer to the former president’s judgment regarding the future of the party’s Senate representation in Kentucky.
Jennings, who previously served as an adviser to Mitch McConnell, has built a national profile through his media presence, often serving as the conservative counterweight on CNN panels. He is known for his sharp commentary and frequent debates with liberal guests and anchors. His growing visibility has fueled speculation about a possible 2026 Senate campaign.
Sources close to Jennings suggest that his interest in the race is genuine. One GOP operative told the New York Post that Jennings’ consideration of a run is “certainly not fake,” implying that discussions around a campaign are active and serious.
However, critics have noted Jennings’ deference to Trump as a sign that he may not be entirely independent in his political calculations. The Daily Beast referred to him as “cable TV’s ubiquitous MAGA Man of the Moment,” noting that while CNN has rewarded him with a higher profile, his allegiance to Trump remains a defining factor in his political identity.
As the 2026 election cycle approaches, attention will be on whether Jennings formally enters the race. His background as a political strategist, his media presence, and his ties to both McConnell and Trump position him as a potentially influential contender—should he choose to run.
