Democrat Deletes Trail of Progressive Posts While Pitching Herself as Moderate in Hotly Contested House Race: Report

A Democrat running in a highly competitive House race has reportedly deleted a series of progressive posts from her social media. The candidate is now positioning herself as a more moderate choice to appeal to a broader electorate, according to a recent report.
A Democratic congressional candidate in New Jersey, Rebecca Bennett, is facing backlash after it was revealed she deleted a series of social media posts praising prominent progressive figures while pitching herself as a moderate in a competitive House race. Bennett, a Navy veteran and Air Force National Guard member, is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Thomas Kean Jr. in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District, which the Cook Political Report has rated as “Lean Republican.” Despite her moderate campaign rhetoric, a review of Bennett’s former social media activity by Fox News, including her X account, which transitioned from @BigRedBecks to @RebeccaForNJ07, revealed multiple deleted posts that seem to contradict her current image.
Among the deleted messages, Bennett expressed admiration for progressive figures such as Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and Vice President Kamala Harris. In a 2019 post, she stated, “Love her” about Warren, and another comment said, “I love everything about this” in response to a video of Warren set to a Taylor Swift song, with Bennett adding, “(Except the misogyny that makes it real…) #TeamWarren.” She also posted enthusiastic support for Harris during her selection as Joe Biden’s running mate in 2020 with the words, “Let’s Goooooo,” which has since been erased. Furthermore, Bennett praised New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker as the “best senator” in a 2020 post, as well as expressing support for Rep. Jason Crow (@JasonCrowCO6) during Trump’s first impeachment trial, saying, “Officially a @JasonCrowCO6 fan” and adding, “I’m a vet who also didn’t have the equipment I needed to do my job, so this is personal for me too. #ImpeachmentTrial.”
Bennett also removed posts showing support for former Obama strategist David Plouffe’s call for hearings on law enforcement’s handling of the George Floyd protests in 2020. When Fox News asked about the deletions, Bennett’s campaign didn’t provide a direct answer but responded with a statement from her senior advisor, Dan Bryan, saying it was no surprise that Bennett’s opponents were using the deletions to attack her. He emphasized that Bennett would continue focusing on her service to the country and Kean’s failure to deliver for the district’s working families. In response, the NRCC accused Bennett of hiding her political past and said, “It’s clear Rebecca Bennett is desperately trying to run away from her past and cover up her radical, out of touch agenda.” This comes as the NJ-07 race is expected to draw national attention in the 2026 midterms.
