NFL Faces Intensified Backlash Over Upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show

The NFL faces increased fury from fans for the upcoming halftime show in Super Bowl LX, as reports indicate that Bad Bunny plans to wear a dress as a tribute to queer icons during the performance.

According to Newsweek, a member of Bad Bunny’s style team claimed the singer would wear a dress during the halftime show, reportedly saying it’s intended as “a political thunderbolt disguised as couture.”

Newsweek has more:

The anonymous source, who has reportedly worked closely with the Puerto Rican star, said the costume is designed to honor Puerto Rican queer icons and push cultural boundaries on one of the world’s biggest stages.

“He loves controversy. He lives to push envelopes,” the stylist said.

Another member of his team said the National Football League (NFL) “has no idea what’s coming,” adding: “He’s not playing it safe.”

However, the final costume has not been confirmed by Bad Bunny or the NFL and the mounting speculation may have been intended to generate further interest ahead of the game. Newsweek reached out to Bad Bunny’s representative for comment on Friday.

The announcement in September of Bad Bunny headlining the Super Bowl halftime show sparked immediate controversy.

Some are calling to boycott the halftime show, adding that it will likely be the least viewed performance of all time.

Apple Music and the NFL announced on Sept. 28 that Bad Bunny would headline the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show at Levi’s Stadium. The announcement immediately sparked backlash from public officials in the Trump admin particularly over the artist’s use of Spanish-language music and his decision to skip US tour dates in recent years.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said the league is standing by its decision. “It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said when asked about the decision, according to the Variety. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching… We’re confident it’s going to be a great show. He understands the platform that he’s on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.”

Bad Bunny, whose legal name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, addressed the controversy during his appearance on Saturday Night Live. He joked that “everyone is happy” about his halftime show — “even Fox News” — before showing an edited montage making Fox News hosts appear to praise him.

He mocked the outrage about his Spanish-speaking performance. “If you didn’t understand what I just said,” he told the crowd, “you have four months to learn.”

Meanwhile…is the NFL rigged?

I would never say that, but some players seemingly do:

Well, the NFL is not going to like this!

After all Pro Sports leagues are under fire for “rigging” due to professional gambling, it might not have been the best time to release this video.

I haven’t watched the NFL in over a decade, so I have no idea who this guy is, but this is apparently a Cornerback for the Tennessee Titans, Darrell Baker Jr. who just posted a video claiming he was given a “script” at the beginning of the season and told to follow it.

He says he was bummed because the script said they would only win 8 games.
