President Trump CANCELS Funding For California’s “High Speed Train to Nowhere”

President Trump absolutely slammed California Gov. Gavin Newsom today for costing hard-working Americans hundreds of billions of dollars in taxpayer money for California’s failed high-speed rail project.

And, President Trump has called off the rail project completely, officially canceling all federal funding for the rail.

To the Law abiding, Tax paying, Hardworking Citizens of the United States of America, I am thrilled to announce that I have officially freed you from funding California’s disastrously overpriced, “HIGH SPEED TRAIN TO NOWHERE.” This boondoggle, led by the incompetent Governor of California, Gavin Newscum, has cost Taxpayers Hundreds of Billions of Dollars, and we have received NOTHING in return except Cost Overruns. The Railroad we were promised still does not exist, and never will. This project was Severely Overpriced, Overregulated, and NEVER DELIVERED. Thanks to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, not a SINGLE penny in Federal Dollars will go towards this Newscum SCAM ever again. This was an ill-conceived and unnecessary project, and a total waste of Taxpayer money — But no more!

The high-speed rail was supposed to connect between Los Angeles and San Francisco with the goal of making traveling between these two cities faster and easier.

Originally, the rail was scheduled to be completed four years ago, for the price of $33 billion.

But, that price eventually ballooned to somewhere around a whopping $130 billion with no set timeline on when it would finally be finished.

Only 171 miles out of 800 miles are even under construction at this time, according to the CA High-Speed Rail page on X:

Recently, the CEO in charge of the project said the rail would be done sometime in the next 20 years.

Yes, really. By 2045.

Last month, Sean Duffy’s Transportation Department dropped a report detailing all the failures of this disastrous project.

Politico reported:

Trump’s announcement Wednesday came after the U.S. Transportation Department issued a scathing report last month slamming the ambitious development for “missed deadlines, budget shortfalls, and overrepresentation of projected ridership.”

The report also found the rail project was unlikely to hit a 2033 completion target for its initial segment, a prerequisite for receiving the federal cash.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy cited the project’s ballooning costs in a post on X announcing the cuts to federal grants, claiming it will cost $135 billion to complete, while Federal Railroad Administration Acting Director Drew Feeley wrote in a Wednesday letter to state officials that the project failed to follow agreements for receiving grant funding.

The project is now estimated to cost up to $128 billion, nearly four times its original $33 billion price tag.

Yet, still Newsom promised $1 billion more each year for the next 20 years to see the end of the project.

Per Reuters:

The California High-Speed Rail System is a planned two-phase 800-mile (1,287 km) system with speeds of up to 220 miles per hour that aims to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim, and in the second phase, extend north to Sacramento and south to San Diego.

The California High-Speed Rail Authority said previously it strongly disagrees with the administration’s conclusions “which are misguided and do not reflect the substantial progress made to deliver high-speed rail in California.”

It noted California Governor Gavin Newsom’s budget proposal before the legislature extends at least $1 billion per year in funding for the next 20 years “providing the necessary resources to complete the project’s initial operating segment.” The authority noted in May there is active civil construction along 119 miles in the state’s Central Valley.

Absolutely insane.

President Trump is right to refuse any further taxpayer funding to this complete failure of a project.

Secretary Duffy said it best:
