President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ Hits Major Snag As Key GOP Senator Says No

RINO Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina is threatening to derail a key piece of President Trump’s agenda. Today, the Senate is scheduled to vote on a motion to advance the so-called ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ — a comprehensive legislative package packed with important measures, including making significant tax cuts permanent.

While the bill isn’t perfect, President Trump wants to get those tax cuts to Americans as soon as possible and deal with other details later. However, not all GOP senators agree with rushing it through.

Senators Ron Johnson and Rand Paul have already announced they plan to vote against the bill. Now, Thom Tillis has added his name to the list of ‘no’ votes, announcing that he will oppose both the initial motion to proceed and the final passage of the legislation.

A Tight Margin Means No Room for More Defections

Fox News reporter Alex Miller pointed out that Tillis’s defection puts the bill on very thin ice — the Senate cannot afford to lose any more votes without the bill failing. This means other hesitant senators, such as Rick Scott, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski, need to quickly decide where they stand.

Susan Collins has said she will support the motion to proceed with debate but has not committed to voting ‘yes’ on final passage. She emphasized that her vote to begin debate does not guarantee her support for the entire bill, noting she wants several changes made.

President Trump is reportedly meeting with Senator Rick Scott to try to secure his support as well.

As for Senator Lisa Murkowski, she has yet to publicly state how she plans to vote.

Tillis Cites Medicaid Concerns

According to Fox News, Tillis, who faces re-election in 2026, expressed that he cannot support the bill largely due to concerns about deep cuts to Medicaid within the package. After a closed-door Senate GOP lunch, he said he respects his colleagues’ choices but that the bill’s impact on his state of North Carolina is unacceptable.

Tillis made it clear he will not vote to proceed with the bill nor support it on the final vote. He joins a group of Senate Republicans uneasy about changes to the Medicaid provider tax rate included in the legislation.

Implications for Senate GOP Leadership

This resistance is troubling news for Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who can only afford to lose three votes to pass the bill. With Tillis, Johnson, and Paul opposing the motion to proceed, the bill’s future is uncertain.

President Trump has been actively engaging with these senators, meeting with Johnson and Scott to try to secure their backing.
