President Trump Appoints Ed Martin to Prominent Role at DOJ
Former President Donald Trump has named Ed Martin to a new position within the Department of Justice. The appointment marks another addition to the administration’s ongoing personnel shifts.
And just like that, Ed Martin is stepping into three key roles at the Department of Justice under President Trump’s leadership. He’s been appointed as Director of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney.
These appointments allow Martin to continue his efforts in challenging what he and Trump allies view as politically motivated prosecutions, particularly those tied to January 6 cases and broader concerns about federal law enforcement under the Biden administration.
The Washington Post reports that Trump praised Martin despite the Senate blocking his nomination for U.S. Attorney for D.C. Facing resistance from Republicans like Thom Tillis, Trump instead selected Judge Jeanine Pirro for that role and tapped Martin for positions that don’t require Senate confirmation.
Trump called Martin a “terrific person” who has “done a very good job,” emphasizing the limits of what he could push through the Senate.
