UPDATE: Rob Reiner’s Son Allegedly a Person of Interest in Parents’ Murder
This evening, we reported on the horrific news that famous director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were found apparently stabbed to death in their own home.
It’s now being reported that Rob Reiner’s middle son Nick is a person of interest in his parents’ murder.
Nick has struggled with drug addiction for a long time.
Here’s what’s being reported:
Sources claiming to be close to the situation spoke to People about Nick’s alleged involvement in the stabbing and notorious battle with drugs:
Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, Nick, multiple sources confirm to PEOPLE.
On Sunday, Dec. 14, at about 3:30 p.m., the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) was called to a home to provide medical aid, the LAFD told PEOPLE. Upon arrival, they found a man, 78, and a woman, 68, dead. Sources confirm the victims were Rob and Michele.
Rob is a director, producer and actor whose career includes some of Hollywood’s most beloved films — from his 1984 directorial debut, This Is Spinal Tap, to Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), Misery (1990) and A Few Good Men (1992)…
In a 2016 interview with PEOPLE, Nick spoke about his years-long struggle with drug addiction, which began in his early teens and eventually left him living on the streets. He said he cycled in and out of rehab beginning around age 15, but as his addiction escalated, he drifted farther from home and spent significant stretches homeless in multiple states.
Nick told PEOPLE that the chaotic period of addiction — including nights and sometimes weeks sleeping outside — later became the basis for the semi-autobiographical film Being Charlie, which he co-wrote.
Rob Reiner actually made a movie about his son’s battle with drug addiction, which Nick helped write.
Here’s a few clips of them talking about it back in 2016:
JUST IN: Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were killed by their son, according to PEOPLE.
Two bodies were found at the couple’s Brentwood, California home on Sunday afternoon.
According to TMZ, wounds were found on their bodies that are consistent with stab wounds.
“Our sources say the two suffered lacerations consistent with a knife. The LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division is still investigating,” TMZ reported.
Rob and his wife had three children together: Jake, Nick, and Romy. Rob had another daughter, Tracy, from his previous marriage.
In multiple 2016 interviews, Rob Reiner and his son, Nick, opened up about their project together titled, ‘Being Charlie.’
The project for Nick was a “semi-autobiographical drama about addiction.” Nick Reiner struggled with drug addiction for years, first going to rehab at the age of 15.
Incredibly sad. RIP.
If true and Reiner’s son killed his mom and dad, then this is such a gut-wrenching and horrible end to a long struggle with drugs.
However, it’s important to note that Nick Reiner has not been confirmed or denied as a person-of-interest by law enforcement, at this time.
CNN reports that police have not sought out a murder suspect:
The Los Angeles Police Department said late Sunday investigators are not seeking any suspects at this stage in the deaths of Rob and Michele Reiner.
“We are not looking for anyone as a suspect or in any other manner at this time,” LAPD Deputy Chief Alan Hamilton said at a news conference, emphasizing that the investigation is still in its earliest phase.
Police detectives were interviewing a family member Sunday evening regarding the deaths, a law enforcement source familiar with the investigation told CNN. Hamilton said at the news conference that no one had yet been detained nor was anyone being interviewed “as a suspect.”
“We’re going to try to speak to every family member that we can to get to the facts of this investigation,” he said.
I really hope it isn’t true that Rob and Michele were murdered by their own son.
So tragic and shocking.
The homicide investigation is ongoing.
We’ll continue to bring you updates as they come in.
Prayers for all.
